Global Coin Research Review

When I first heard about Global Coin Research DAO (GCR DAO), I was in the beginning of my Web3 journey. Their website introduced themselves as tokenized, decentralized community of learners and investors in web3. Even though I was very much intrigued, words like tokenized, decentralized didn’t really register in my mind. So, I kind of left it at that.

Then I recently came across GCR again, with a bit more context to understand what GCR was all about. I really resonated with their vision. Tokens, I believe, are for Web3 what websites were for Web 1.0. GCR’s focus on coins was something I really liked. At the time, I was also writing an article and was looking for a platform to publish them. I was also looking into other Media DAOs like ForefrontDAO, BanklessDAO etc. However, when I saw GCR’s media mining program program. I was thoroughly impressed.

GCR Media Mining program allows contributors, writers and researchers on Global Coin Research to earn $GCR tokens in exchange for their work. I had already written an article. GCR provided a very intuitive tool for submitting articles. With just a few clicks, I was able to submit my article to GCR. This was in contrast to other DAOs were submitting article included a lot of interaction with core team members. The benefits didn’t end there. I was paid 150 $GCR tokens, which is around $400 USD at the time of writing.

I was immediately hooked. This was a substantial sum of money for me. This is my favorite thing about GCR. They place a high value on their writers and contributors. This will be obvious when you compare it to other options. Legacy institutions wouldn’t pay this much to any one-time contributors who are writing for the first time. In the case of GCR, only the quality of the piece was considered, nothing else.

However, a slew of questions arose for me. How can they afford to pay that much money to a writer? What exactly is their business model? Is that a viable option? etc. As a result, I learned more about GCR DAO. I read everything I could about them, including their whitepaper, other people’s reactions to them, their blog, social media channels, and so on. I read everything.

To say the least, I was seriously impressed with what they have achieved.

I’m not suggesting they’re the best thing since sliced bread. I’m still not sure how they’ll fund writing after four years, given that the whitepaper states that their ten million coins will be fully mined after four years. But that’s probably because I don’t understand their tokenomics well enough.

In any case, I am looking forward to working with this community over the long haul.

Disclaimer: This article was written as part of the “Tell the world why you love Global Coin Research” task on Layer3. I might be rewarded 100 $GCR for this.
